Badminton is one of the oldest sports in the world dating its origination during the ancient civilizations of Asia and Europe. Battledore and Shuttlecock, the initial names of the sport is over 2000 years old commonly played in Greece, China and India.
In 1992, Badminton got included has an Olympic sport with five events namely men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair consists of a man and a woman. Since then it has been one of the eagerly watched event in every Olympic.
Badminton is the second most popular sport in India after Cricket. The recent achievements in this sport have ignited the interests in many. Prakash Padukone, Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Kashyap, etc., are the most admired personalities of this sport in the country. Their performances and achievements are inspiring many youngsters to take up a professional career in the sport. It is evident from the recent trends that badminton courts around the world will have a significant Indian representation from now on.
